  • This is for those coming across the pond for the first time. When you are receiving personalized service (ranging from taxis to hair cuts to being waited on in a restaurant), not leaving a tip in most places would be bad form. If the service is poor, or if its a non-service situation just chancing their arm (think a cashier), there is no expectation to leave a tip .

    The going rate is generally 15% - 20% of the pre-tax total, but 20% is what many servers generally expect.

  • Its common practice in bars in the States to open a bar tab when you first order your drinks. Some bars might take your card behind the bar and you’ll have to remember to get it back at the end of the night. You can still order as you go though if you want.

    Don’t be surprised if you get hit with a couple of hefty charges at the end of your trip! It can sometimes take a few days for your tab to go through.

  • Outside of the wedding the city is your oyster! There’s little chance of running out of things to do but we recommend having a good game plan ahead of time.

    My advice is to try and concentrate activities in one borough or even one neighborhood. It can be easy to underestimate travel time and spend all day in transit.
